This school year as a parent, neighbor or just plain good citizen, you will undoubtedly be encouraged to organize or participate in a fundraiser. There are many ways to raise funds for your community organization, school or church, including bake sales, candy sales, pancake breakfasts to walk-a-thons and car wash fundraisers. Done right, a car wash fundraiser can be one of the most profitable fundraising methods you can choose - one that will not only provide a valuable service to supporters, but help your organization clean up in proceeds.
Parents now realize if their teenager develops a compulsive gambling addiction their future course of action and time involvement is unknown. This isn't something that is here today and gone tomorrow.
Hawaiian Children's Books celebrate the magic experienced by the keikis(children) of Hawaii. Hawaiian Surf and Dolphin Magic is the newest original Hawaiian Children's book for adults and children alikw who are enchanted by the natural magic of Hawaii.
It has often been said that the teenage years are the "best years of your life". However, anyone who says that does not remember what it is like being a teenager. Between school, life, parents, friends, and the fact that all of them want all of your time, there is no way to get away from the petty concerns and strains that can lead to serious stress. However, nobody seems willing to give up any of the time they demand from you, so you find yourself torn in a thousand different directions with nowhere to turn to for help. Fortunately, you do not need to deal with stress all on your own. Rather, you can find plenty of help, just as long as you look for it. Unfortunately, teenagers rarely look for help and many of the assets available to them are simply ignored. Thus, your teen stress keeps getting worse.
One of the themes I see on the various internet boards I belong to is that children eat and run. First, whatever happened to manners. We were not allowed to leave the table without permission and unless it was an outright emergency we had to stay until everyone was done eating. Also, we used dinnertime to catch up on the day's activities. When my dad wasn't there, my mom would ask my sister, brother and I how our day was. Did everything go well, any problems? WE COMMUNICATED.
So, you've got a child at school, and they know how to read and write well. Perhaps they do very well academically.
One of my family's favorite meals is called "little pizzas". We take an English muffin and split it, put some tomato sauce on it, then some low fat mozzarella cheese with some pepperoni slices (hey sometimes you just have to splurge)! However, some healthier toppings would be ham (lean), Canadian bacon, turkey sausage, peppers, olives, or sliced or diced onions.
Q. How can I design an interesting map quiz?
A. You can't. At least you can't if you intend to design a map quiz where you draw some geographical areas and then ask "Where is South America?". While that would definitely qualify as a map quiz, it wouldn't make the grade of an "interesting" map quiz.
Music has the power to calm, sooth, energize and make everyone have fun!
Try these ideas at your child's next play date or sleepover for a guaranteed good time.
What is prom night? For your parents, prom night usually included a dinner followed by a dance at school. The entire event lasted no longer than one night.
The latest trend to hit high schools is supervised teenage gambling at the Post Prom School Party. Over the past few months I have received numerous emails from parents, students and school faculty expressing concern about the new alternative entertainment. In all cases these people believe it would do more harm then good.
Bullies in the Bully Zapper Mentor Program at our school are happy to be zapped by the end of the first quarter. They have not received any office referrals and they have passing grades maybe for the first time in their school career. Many of their victims are happy too that they have had a quiet quarter where they could focus on their schoolwork and be a kid instead of defending themselves against the bullies.
A child's imagination is something to be encouraged and treasured. Young children learn many skills through imagination, from independent play, interactive play, language and cognitive skills to name a few. Pretend play and dress up are wonderful ways to allow your child to dream and act out all sorts of fun adventures.
Whew! You have counseled the victims. You have counseled and yelled at the bullies!
And they are still running their mouths and hurting innocent students!
Back in 1930, a young boy went to the circus with his family. He was enthralled by the aerial acts, but more than their in-air stunts, he was fascinated by the way they dropped into the safety net after the act was over, finishing off with flourishes as they bounced back into the air.
Where is Yesterday? Really where did it go? I mean.............. How can 24hrs just disappear?
Awareness, Education and Responsibility.
With all the focus on weight today it is not surprising that children are starting to look at their bodies at earlier ages. Children as young as 7 years of age are asking parents about their bodies. Where are they getting it from? Well, I would imagine television, magazines and the internet are some of the places. However, as we were all children once, it is also coming from other children. I can still remember well kids making fun of other children. While I never participated in it, I was a recipient of it, so I know how it feels. While mine wasn't weight related, it still hurts. From what I am seeing and reading it is even nastier and more prevalent in our schools today.
Sudoku is the addictive number puzzle that has taken the UK by storm and is now taking over the rest of the world. Since it first appeared in The Times in late 2004 its popularity has grow so that it appears in most UK newspapers and has spread to countries from India to Canada, Australia to South Africa.
With the beginning of the new school year coming VERY soon, here are some tips to give us a "heads-up" to start the year off knowing what to do.
Ideally, we raise our children from the cradle to have a positive sense of self-esteem. A child that has always had a strong sense of who they are and were they want to go with their life isn't as likely to dabble in drugs, alcohol, and premarital sex. A child who has a safe open dialog with at least one of their parents isn't as likely to keep secrets and start sneaking around during the teenage years. A child who has been raised to set personal boundaries isn't as likely to let peer pressure dictate their standards of conduct. Children who have been raised to recognize their own gifts and limitations are able to make their own choices about what is in their long-term best interest. But most teens weren't raised perfectly and they know it, so along with the lack of self-confidence they are often carrying at least a little bit of animosity towards the authority figures that have failed them.
