When it comes to remedies, garlic is a must have in our household. Garlic is a powerful antibiotic, antiviral and antibacterial. In many cases, garlic can work just as well, if not better than any prescription antibiotic. When you're feeling under the weather, dice up a clove of garlic and mix it with salsa or hot chicken noodle soup. This can make a big difference in the time you are sick and in the way you feel. If you have nausia or vommiting, be carfull with garlic, as it may make it worse. This is a good time to make a "foot preparation" of garlic as a poltice. Finely chop two garlic cloves and set aside. Rub olive oil on the bottom of the feet. With the bottoms of the feet facing up, place the chopped garlic on the feet and apply a warm wet washcloth. Then place the feet on a heating pad to keep warm. Be sure to always check the skin to make sure there is no burning and then continue. The oil in this case, helps keep the skin from burning. Using this meathod, garlic's antibiotic properties go through the skin and into the bloodstream and move on to the lungs and the rest of the body. Garlic and water can also be used as a gargle for a sore throat. I have personally found a clove or two of garlic in a can of chicken broth an immediate relief for chest coughs, bronchitis and congestion. Simply bring this to a boil and let cool down a bit and sip. Some of the many uses for garlic have been listed below. Animal bites- Blend some cloves of garlic in warm water. Wash wound with it. Keep a moist compress on it. Do not leave garlic on the skin longer than 20 minutes. Insect bites, stings, snake bites, scorpions - Mix garlic with spit and apply to bite for no longer than 20 minutes. Also eat some garlic raw if bite is more serious and seek immediate medical attention. Arthritis/ Inflammation - Take cat's claw to relieve inflammation. Do not take for long periods of time. Cooked garlic and onions. Take ginger regularly. Ginger has very strong anti-inflammatory properties. Asthma - Garlic tea - Finely chop two cloves garlic, add a handful of hyssop, simmer on low heat in one quart water for 20-30 minutes. Drink a cup as needed. Bronchitis - Take raw and cooked garlic. Take zinc lozenges at the first sign. You can also make a poultice by chopping garlic and placing it on half a washcloth. Fold other half over it. Crush garlic thoroughly inside cloth. Open cloth, spread garlic evenly in the center and place over chest area. Cover with hot water bottle or heating pad. Do not leave garlic on the skin longer than 20 minutes unless soaked in olive oil first. For a cold, cough or bronchitis, drink garlic broth - Put chicken broth in a pot with 2 cloves crushed garlic. Add a few pinches thyme and heat to almost boiling. Turn off heat and when cool enough to drink, sip this and breath the steam. Minor stomach ache - Crush three cloves garlic with a little salt. Pour boiling water over it and let stand until room temperature. Take the garlic water twice daily for up to three days if needed. Ginger tea with cinnamon is also good. Colds - Take zinc lozenges at the first sign, drink green tea 3 times a day. Blend 3 cloves garlic in 1/2 cup carrot juice. Swallow this down. Do this three times a day. Make a soup of garlic, onions, and greens. Garlic foot bath twice daily - Blend 6 cloves garlic in a pint of water. Let sit for 1 hour. Put feet in small tub big enough to cover feet to the ankles in water as hot as you can stand. Add garlic water to the hot water. Soak feet for 15 minutes. This is also good for immune system, foot fungus, and fatigue. Garlic syrup is also good if you have a sore throat or a cough. Drink lots of water. Coughs - Take zinc lozenges at the first sign. Take garlic syrup - In a food processor, blend about 15 BULBS garlic. In a half gallon jar, layer a thin amount of garlic on the bottom then a thin amount of sugar just enough to cover the garlic. Alternate layers like this until the garlic is all used. Close the jar and let sit in a warm place for two days. Then you can squeeze this through a cheesecloth to obtain the syrup. No added liquid is needed. Store in a cool dry place. Toothache - Garlic and honey applied to the tooth to ease pain and kill bacteria and prevent or slow the rotting of the tooth. Very effective. Diarrhea - Eat two or three cloves raw garlic throughout the day. Ear aches - Garlic oil - Crush about 3 BULBS garlic or blend in food processor. Put in a jar. Cover with olive oil. Close the jar and let sit in a warm place for 3 days. Strain through a cloth and apply a few drops garlic oil in ear as needed. Emphysema/ COPD - Foot and hand baths - One head garlic crushed. One handful hawthorn flowers. One handful sage. One handful thyme. Put this in 1 quart lukewarm water. Allow to sit four to five hours. Bottle and store. For foot or hand bath, boil 2 quarts water, turn off heat and add half pint of prepared liquid. Take bath as hot as you can stand. 104-110 degrees is the best temperature range. Soak few for 8 minutes in the morning before breakfast and the hands 8 minutes before dinner. It can be saved, reheated and reused but should not be boiled again or have more water added to it. Food poisoning - Slightly cooked garlic. Simmer 2-3 cloves chopped garlic and equal amounts of ginger for 10 minutes in a quart of water. Drink in 2 doses. High Blood Pressure - 1-3 cloves garlic a day slightly cooked or chopped and left to sit overnight. Celery daily along with fish oils, potasium, calcium and magnesium. Exercise, eat more fresh fruits and veggies. Eat less fat and protein, and control stress levels better. Cut out alcohol and caffine. Hoarseness - Eat 1/2 to 1 clove raw garlic. Wound infections - Raw garlic internally and wash wound in garlic wine. Apply crushed garlic over a garlic-wine soaked gauze pad placed on the wound. Put more cloth over the poultice and apply heat over the top. Continue for 15-20 minutes. (Garlic wine - Blend 1-3 cloves garlic in 3/4 cup wine. Let stand for 3 hours. Take tablespoon doses for colds or flu or other infection every few hours and use as a wash for poultice on wound infections.) Flu - Take zinc lozenges at the first sign. Also take Sambucol black elderberry extract at first sign. Take garlic wine, and raw garlic. Drink lots of water and do not take garlic if you are dehydrated. Parasites - Raw garlic juice or any raw form of garlic. Fever - Garlic can be taken for all fevers except one. Do not take if you have a high body temperature, yellow coated tongue, burning sensations, or are very irritable. Garlic is also very helpful in other viral and bacterial infections as well as aids, cancer, whooping cough, and tuberculosis. Garlic has a powerful effect on the lungs and has saved countless lives during the plague and in times of war. Garlic is an amazing antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and natures antibiotic. Do not take garlic if you are a person who is always hot and/or thirsty or if you have dry mouth. Do not take garlic if you are on blood thinning medications or are expecting to have surgery. Do not take garlic RAW on a daily basis. It is to be taken raw only for temporary conditions. Make sure always to check to see if any irritation or burning occurs if garlic is left on the skin longer than 20 minutes. Garlic can blister and burn the skin, even if you do not feel anything burning, especially if applied without oil.
